The JEE Main exam is a national level examination, which is organized to provide admissions in undergraduate engineering and architecture courses provided by NITs, IIITs and IITs.

Exam Pattern

Subjects Questions Marks
Chemistry 30 120
Physics 30 120
Mathematics 30 120
Total 0 360

Marking Scheme :

Marking Scheme: Each correct question will carry 4 marks.
Negative Marking: 1/4 negative marking for every incorrect answer i.e. 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

Books :

CHEMISTRY

INORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Coaching material!! (lifeline :P)
NCERT textbooks (theory) (MOST IMPORTANT THEORY BOOKS)
JD LEE (theory) (olympiads)(upto your wish)
Huheey (theory) (used very less) (olympiads and IOC enthu junta)
problems in inorganic chemistry CENGAGE by Vishal Joshi (problems) (very useful) (it is as well important to practice inorganic chemistry, and a great collection of problems is available)
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Coaching material!! (lifeline :P)
NCERT textbooks (theory) (VERY VERY IMPORTANT)
Peter Sykes (short and really sweet book) (good for understanding mechanisms)
Morrison Boyde unadapted version (really very conceptual) (but very long)
problems in organic chemistry CENGAGE by Surendra Mishra (problems) (very useful) (recommended for problem solving aspect) (synchronized with the current JEE syllabus and level)
PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Coaching material!! (lifeline :P)
NCERT textbooks (theory)
PHYSICS

a) THEORY BOOKS

HC VERMA (for basics) (traditional book)
UNIVERSITY PHYSICS (not used much) (very long and sluggish for me)
RESNICK HALLIDAY (not used much but its quite good)
KLEPPNER AND KOLENKOW (great book) (higher level) (olympiads)
electromagnetism by DJ GRIFFITHS (great book) (higher level) (olympiads)
irodov theory book for mechanics (great book) (higher level) (olympiads)
fenymans lectures on physics (not compulsary)
b)PROBLEM BOOKS

Coaching material!!
HC VERMA (good for basics)(must try grasp all concepts)(good objective types)
irodov (great book) (mechanics SHM fluids themodynamics electrostats current electricity capacitance modern physics) (some chapters arent jee oriented)
krotov (olympiads)(not done alot)(tough!!)
CENGAGE : Advanced problems in school physics (my favorite book for problem solving) (gives lot of intuition) (olympiads)
MATHS

Coaching material!! (lifeline :P) (almost used only questions provided)
Hall and knight algebra (some topics)
SL LONEY trignometry (if you think yourself good at trig, miscellaneous problems at end are worth trying!!!)
SL LONEY coordinate geometry (great book) (for conic sections especially)
Fitjee AITS MATHS (not at all needed) (used for show off) (challenging problems)
