| Re: Jadavpur University Orientation Courses
Since the inception of Orientation Courses in 2000, the UGC-ASC, Jadavpur University, has organized eleven (11) Orientation Programmes for college and university teachers, one Orientation Programme for Academic Administrators, and eighty two (82) Refresher Courses in a host of subjects. The content of the orientation courses has been redesigned in keeping with the recent UGC instruction to prepare college and university teachers in the tools of information technology. The NPE recognized the need to recover the status of the teacher and thus proposed to provide opportunity for professional and career development with the expectation that the teachers may fulfill their role and responsibility within the system of higher education. It was proposed to improve their enthusiasm, skills and knowledge through systematic orientation in specific subjects, techniques and methodologies, and therefore instill in them the right values that in turn encourage them to take initiative for creative work. Keeping in mind the above objectives UGC had proposed to organize orientation programmes in pedagogy, educational psychology, philosophy, socio-economic, political concerns and Information Technology for all freshly appointed teachers and librarians at least once in three to five years. There are methods to push teachers to participate in seminars, symposia, workshops, etc. Reading materials have been published by UGC – ASC, JU for enhancing better teaching/learning for the participants 29 study materials of Orientation Programs. Study materials for Refresher courses from concerned disciplines. Study materials on IT for Orientation Program.
