IVRI Pune
I have come to know that Indian Veterinary Research Institute which is located at Izatnagar was initially established as a Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory and the foundation stone was laid by Sir Dinshaw Monock ji Petit Bart who is a philanthropist adjoining the College of Science at Pune . Is it true ?

The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is currently headquartered at Izatnagar, Bareilly (U.P) was initially established at Pune, Maharashtra in 1889 as the Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory for conducting research for the protection of Indian livestock wealth from the dreaded diseases. The Institute open IVRI Centre at Pune, Maharashtra for imparting training and education in veterinary and animal sciences. The Western part of India is endowed with rich livestock resources with indigenous breeds that have better adaptability to heat and disease tolerance such as cattle (Gir, Kankrej, Rathi, Tharparkar, Deoni, Khillar, etc), buffalo (Mehasana, Surti, Jaffrabadi, Nagpuri, Pandharpuri, etc.) and sheep & goat. Training and Education Centre of Indian Veterinary Research Institute at Pune play an important and pivotal role in capacity building by arranging appropriate programmes for farmers, extension functionaries and various stakeholders, including Government officials.
