The iThemba Laboratory is available for Accelerator Based Sciences is a multidisciplinary research facility that is based on the development, operation and use of particle accelerators and related research equipment. The largest of these, a k-200 separated sector cyclotron can accelerate protons to energies of 200MeV, and heavier particles to much higher energies. The iThemba LABS and INSTN was pave the way for the creation of the South African Institute for Nuclear Technology and Sciences The iThemba LABS, a National Research Facility managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), signed a cooperation agreement with the French National Institute of Nuclear Sciences and Technology (INSTN). iThemba Labs is located on the old Cape Road, Faure, which runs parallel to the N2, between the M32 and the R310 routes.
