The Indo-Tibetan Border Police was established in the year 1962 and it is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India .

The head office is located at New Delhi, India .

ITBP is a multi-dimensional force which primarily has 5 functions:

To maintain the peace.

Vigil on northern borders, prevention of border violations, and promotion of sense of security among local populace.

Check illegal immigration and trans-border smuggling.

Restore and preserve order in any area in the event of disturbance.

Provide security to sensitive installations and threatened VIPs.
