Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is a type of an autonomous apex statutory body.

It is an agency of Government of India.
It regulates and develops the insurance industry in India.
It was formed by an Act of Indian Parliament known as IRDA Act 1999, which was amended in 2002 to incorporate some emerging requirements.
It has it’s headquarter in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

Structure:
As per the section 4 of IRDA Act' 1999, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority specify the composition of Authority.
IRDAI is a ten-member body consisting of:

A Chairman
Five whole-time members
Four part-time members
