Internship at IISC Bangalore

Can you tell me if I am eligible for Internship at IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore if I am not a student of IIT as I want to do my Internship from there?

B.E/B.Tech students who are pursuing 2nd or 3rd year of the course are eligible for summer internship in IISc (Indian Institute of Science). The facility is offered mainly at two constituent centers of IISc, Computer Science and Automation (CSA) and Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC).

Eligibility Criteria for Summer Internship in IISc

Those who have enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of engineering studies are eligible to apply for summer internship in IISc. Such candidates must be pursuing their B.E/B.Tech degree in any of the streams of Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electronics and Instrumentation.

Candidate must have obtained minimum 75% marks in B.E/B.Tech up to the semesters/years completed so far.

Application Procedure for Summer Internship Program in IISc

Eligible and desirous students need to apply online through the web portal of IISc.
Candidate need to upload a reference letter while submitting the application form. Reference letter must be in web-based form issued either by the Head of the Department or the Principal of the college.
Even a senior faculty member of the college can also issue the reference letter.
Candidate need to follow these guidelines before filling and submitting the application.

All applicants who apply are not selected for summer internship in IISc.
Selection of most eligible candidates is done by a committee of faculty members at the Departments of CSA/SERC.
Selected candidates need to reach the institute on the definite date.
They can only join the internship program after certificate verification process.

About the Internship:

Selected candidates will work with the IISc Faculty members and learn various techniques used in research for a period of one month during May-June 2015.4

Who can apply:

SC/ST students studying in 1st year M.Sc in science disciplines (Biological, Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences), or III rd year B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree, during the academic year 2014-15

Additional Information:

IISc will provide:

Traveling allowance equivalent to II Class train fare from College/residence to IISc and back

Free boarding and lodging (on sharing basis) at IISc

Through the national science academies One can apply for the 2-month Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP) at IISc through the national science academies. Interested students can download the application form available on the official websites of Indian Academy of Science (IAS), Indian National Science Academy, and National Academy of Sciences, India.

Emailing the professors at IISc Students can also email IISc professors for an internship directly. Choose a professor whose work at IISc Bangalore resonates with your interests and ambitions and send her a research proposal along with a statement of purpose (SoP), where you can mention your availability along with your research interests and how they fit into the professors area of expertise.
