Nalanda University (also known as Nalanda International University) is located in Rajgir, near Nalanda, Bihar, India. It began its first academic session in its establishment year 2014. Initially set up with temporary facilities in Rajgir, a modern campus is expected to be finished by 2020. Nalanda is proclaimed as one of the most important universities in the world, was developed not in the medieval west, but right here in India it was instrumental in producing people who are capable of understanding and articulating what it means to have universal knowledge, knowledge that is applicable across cultures and across times. Schools and Departments Currently three schools have been established: School of Historical Studies School of Environment and Ecological Studies School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religion The following schools will be started later, in a phased manner: School of Languages and Literature School of International Relations and Peace Studies School of Information Sciences and Technology School of Business Management (Public Policy and Development Studies) Governing Board Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Chancellor NU Prof. Sunaina Singh, Vice Chancellor, NU Five Members from member countries with highest contribution: Representative from India Shri N.K.
