The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) was established in 2000. The aim of Institute was to guarantee that lessons learnt from South Africa’s transition were taken into account as the nation moved ahead.

Programs Offered
The Communication and Strategy Programme
The Communication and Strategy Programme offered by The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) in consultation with the Executive Director, oversees and manages the following areas:

Strategic planning;
Internal and external communication;
Media relations;
Knowledge and information management;
(Online) fundraising and donor relations
Monitoring and evaluation;
Special events; and
The IJR Reconciliation Award

Building an Inclusive Society Programme
The various components of the Building an Inclusive Society Programme (BIS) work together to acknowledge and confront enduring legacies of injustice and marginalisation in post-colonial and post-apartheid in South Africa.

Policy and Analysis Programme
The IJR's Policy and Analysis (PA) Unit does research on the social, political and economic issues that impact on the contexts within which the Institute works.

Justice and Reconciliation in Africa
The Institute's Justice and Reconciliation in Africa Programme (JR) currently supports and partners around transitional justice and reconciliation initiatives in the three regions: Southern Africa, Great Lakes and the Greater Horn of Africa.
