The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) was established in 1962 in Ludhiana, Punjab is one of the State Agricultural Universities in India. The Punjab Agricultural University was instituted in 1962 to serve the state of erstwhile Punjab. On dissection of Punjab in November 1966, Haryana Agricultural University was carved out of PAU by an Act of Parliament in February 1970. The Punjab Agricultural University currently as on January 2016 has four constituent colleges, viz. College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering, College of Home science and College of Basic Sciences & Humanities. Facts of Punjab Agricultural University: Area : 475 hectare app. Off Campus Area : 2008 hectare app. Research Stations (Six Main, Four Sub-Stations) : 10 Seed Farms : 05 Faculty : 866 Non-Teaching : 3071 Achievements of Punjab Agricultural University: Improved varieties and hybrids of pasture crops, vegetables and fruits. Production and defence technologies. Appropriate automation of farm operations. PAU was affirmed the best state agricultural university in 1995 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. ICAR has set up 5 centres of Advanced Studies at PAU (Of these three are now in GADVASU). PAU was the 1st University to get special grant of Rs One Billion by the Centre in 2006-07, as an acknowledgement of its position in eliminating food shortages and alleviating hunger. PAU fashioned the first hybrid grain pearl millet in the world. PAU evolved repossession technology for salt affected soil covering 0 7 million hectares. |
