The Indian Statistical Institute was founded by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Kolkata on December17th , 1931.

The institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.

The North-East centre of the Institute at Tezpur was inaugurated on July 23rd, 2011 by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Union Finance Minister and Chairman of the ISI council.

Eligibility

An applicant must possess (i) Bachelor's degree in any discipline with Mathematics as a subject or (ii) (a) BE/B.Tech degree or (b) any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE). The domiciled candidates from the North-Eastern states must also have a domicile certificate of North-Eastern states from a recognized authority.

Selection Procedure

Selection is based on academic records and performance in a written test and an interview. The written test consists of multiple-choice and/or short-answer questions in Basic Mathematics at pass/minor level of Bachelor's degree.
