2023 2024 Student Forum - Indian Statistical Institute In Chennai

The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), a unique institution devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences.

ISI is completely funded by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.

The Chennai Centre is actively invloved in research in areas of Statistics, Game Theory, Graph Theory, Logic, Cryptogaphy, Physics and Mathematics.

They offer a Master's program in Statistics, and Doctoral programs in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistical Quality Control.

Programs offered-

M.Stat

ISI Chennai currently offers the first year of M.Stat. NB-stream. In the second year, the students go to ISI Kolkata to complete their specialization.

Admission-

Students with a 3-years Bachelor's degree with statistics as a full subject are eligible to apply for the M.Stat program.

Selection of students is based on past academic record, and performance in entrance tests and in an interview.

Information regarding the admission process is advertised in major Indian newspapers and on our website in February of each year.

The entrance tests are held in May, and interviews are usually held in June.

New sessions start in late July.

PhD

ISI Chennai offers PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistical Quality Control. For details of the program see here.

Application

A written Junior Research Fellow (JRF) selection test is conducted in May of each year by ISI for all Ph.D. aspirants, followed by an interview.

A written test followed by an interview, held in June each year, is mandatory for such candidates.
