Re: Indian Police Service Guidelines

The IPS (Indian Police Service) is responsible for public safety and security.
The IPS is also filled through the civil services exam conducted by UPSC.

Qualifications:

The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

Age Limit:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years.

Age Relaxation:

Upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe

Upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes

Exam pattern
Exam conduct in three phases:

1) CSAT
2) Civil Services Mains
3) IPS Interview

Duration of the Exam:
1 DAY

CIVIL SERVICES (MAIN) EXAM 2015:

Prelim syllabus;

Part A

PAPERS OF OBJECTIVE TYPE

Paper I - (200 marks) Duration : Two hours

• Current events of national and international importance
• History of India and Indian National Movement
• Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
• General Science.

Paper II-(200 marks) Duration : Two hours

• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability
• Decision making and problem solving
• General mental ability
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level)
• English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
