The Indian Police Service examination is a Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission to join Indian Police Service.

IPS exam eligibility-

The candidates must have a degree from recognized university in any discipline.

The candidates who are writing their final degree exam can also apply for this exam.
Candidates with professional and technical qualifications recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional and technical degrees.

Age limit:

General-The maximum age for a candidate is 32 years.

OBC- The maximum age for a candidate is 35 years.

SC/ST- The maximum age for a candidate is 37 years.

Physically handicapped- The maximum age for a candidate is 42,45 and 47 years for general, OBC, SC/ST respectively.

Nationality:

For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.

Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2018 -

Apply online at website from 07-02-2018 to 06-03-2018 till 1800 hrs

UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2018 Date - 3rd June, 2018

Civil Services (Main) Examination 2018 -

Exam Date - 28.09.2018 (FRIDAY)

Duration of Exam - 5 DAYS

IPS Pattern:-

Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and (ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts

Preliminary Examination:-

The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.

(i) Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).

(ii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English. However, questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level will be tested through passages from English Language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.

Each paper will be of two hours duration. Blind candidates will however, be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes for each paper.

Main Examination:-

Paper-A (One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution). 300 Marks

Paper-B English 300 Marks Papers to be counted for merit

Paper-I Essay 250 Marks

Paper-II General Studies-I 250 Marks

(Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)

Paper-III General Studies -II 250 Marks (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)

Paper-IV General Studies -III 250 Marks

(Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)

Paper-V General Studies -IV 250 Marks (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

Paper-VI Optional Subject - Paper 1 250 Marks

Paper-VII Optional Subject - Paper 2 250 Marks

Sub Total (Written test) - 1750 Marks

Personality Test - 275 Marks

Grand Total - 2025 Marks

Candidates may choose any one of the optional subject
