Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public university for scientific research and higher education in Bangalore which was established in 1909. It has been ranked number 1 and 4 in the BRICS and Asian region respectively while considering the criteria of Papers per Faculty in 2015.

Important Dates

The important dates for admission in Research (Ph D / M Sc (Engg) Programmes of IISc or Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore are as follows:

Commencement of Online Application
October 9, 2015

Last dates for Online Application (website closure)
October 30, 2015

Interview for Research programmes
November 19 - 20, 2015

Date of Reporting at IISc
December 31, 2015

Commencement of Session
January 1, 2016

Research (Ph D / M Sc (Engg) Programmes Eligibility

Master degree or its equivalent in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science/ Agriculture/ Humanities

Master degree or its equivalent in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture

Bachelor degree or its equivalent in Engineering/Technology/ Medicine/ Architecture/ Biotechnology/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science/ Agriculture

Graduates of 4-Year Bachelor of Science Programmes are also eligible to apply.

Bachelor degree holders in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science /Electronics followed by qualifications obtained through exams conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as being equivalent to a Bachelor degree in Engineering.

MBA or its equivalent subsequent to BE/B Tech, for admission to the department of Management Studies only

Qualifying in one of the following appropriate Tests (with validity as on 1st of August 2015) is mandatory :
CSIR-UGC NET for JRF;

or

UGC-NET for JRF;

or

DBT JRF;

Or

ICMR JRF;

or

JEST 2015;

or

NBHM Screening Test 2015;

or

GATE 2014/2015

or

INSPIRE fellows (for Ph D).

Qualifying above mentioned tests is not mandatory but desirable for candidates who possess a Master degree in Engineering /Technology /M Sc(Engg) or MS or MBA (2 years) post BE/B Tech and want to apply for Ph D in the Engineering.
