Re: Indian Air Force Flying Officer

In many cases the rank of flying officer is the first rank an air force officer holds after successful completion of his professional training. A flying officer might serve as a pilot in training, an adjutant, a security officer or an administrative officer and is typically given charge of personnel and/or resources.

Eligibility Criterion to become Flying Officer in Indian Air Force

Three year full time graduation in any discipline from a recognized University is the minimum educational qualification required.

Candidates should have studied Physics and Mathematics in higher secondary level. Apart from this, those who have completed B.E. or B.Tech in any subject are also eligible. Candidates are required to secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in qualifying exam.

Physical Standards


Candidates are required to have a minimum height of 162.5 centimeters with appropriate weight. They should have leg length of minimum 99 centimeters and maximum of 120 centimeters. Thigh length should be up to 64 centimeters. Sitting height of minimum of 81.5 centimeters and maximum of 96 centimeters are acceptable.

Age Restrictions
Candidates who are in the age group of 19 to 23 years are eligible to apply. Those who have valid Commercial Pilot license issued by Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) can seek age relaxation up to 5 years in upper age.


Selection Procedure
Recruitment to the post of Flying officer in Indian Air Force is on the basis of written test as well as medical test conducted by Air Force Selection Board. Applicants will have to appear for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)
