Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur – (IIT Kharagpur) Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology The Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur (IIT) is the first Indian Institute of Technology was found in May 1950 in Kharagpur, in the eastern part of India. Form all 7 IITs in India, IIT Kharagpur offers the maximum number of engineering speciliazation. The IIT Kharagpur has a School of Information Technology, but IIT Kharagpur does not offers PG diploma in Information Technology course right now from the session 2008-2009. The courses offered at the IIT Kharagpur School of Information Technology are as listed given below: M.Tech. (Information Technology) M.S Ph.D Here are the details required for the IITK SIT PG diploma in Information Technology course: PG diploma in Information Technology Eligibility: The candidate should have Bachelor's degree in any branch of engineering or M.Sc in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications (with Mathematics as a subject at Bachelor's level) with minimum marks of 60% or equivalent CGPA. The Final year students who shall be completing the above qualifying programmes by July of the year of PGDIT examination can also apply. The Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Government of India rules. The candidate should also pass an entrance test. Duration: The PGDIT programme has 2 semesters, the 1st semester generally starting from the last week of July and finishing in November-end. The 2nd semester starts in the January-beginning and ends in the first half of May. Location: The course was available on full-time basis at three locations: Calcutta Extension Centre, Salt Lake City, Kolkata Bhubaneswar Extension Centre, Samantapuri (near Swosti Plaza Hotel), Bhubaneswar, Orissa Institute campus, Kharagpur Examination: The PGDIT programme has 1 mid-semester and 1 end-semester examinations besides class tests and submission of assignments. Project: For the PGDIT project 1-semester industry relevant project is assigned to each student on different problems. The project is supervised by the faculty and evaluated at the end of the semester. All the projects have to be demonstrated and presented to a team of faculty members at the end of the semester for final evaluation. PGDIT Entrance Exam Pattern The admission test for PGDIT is objective in nature.
