Re: IIT JEE Main Selection Procedure

IIT JEE Main exam for admission for B.E/B.Tech including IIT and NIT. First the JEE Main exam will be conducted and shortlisted students who are ranked well in the main exam will be qualifying for the JEE Advanced exam .

IIT JEE main exam is enough for the admission to NIT
JEE advanced exam will be considered for the admission to Indian Institute of Technology.

About 14 to 16 lakh applicants are expected to apply for JEE Advanced 2014. These will include applicants who have appeared for their Class 12 boards for the first time in 2013 or 2014.
First, these applicants will apply for JEE Main 2014 – the last date of which was January 6, 2014.

Applicants will sit for pen-and-paper-based JEE Main exam on April 6 or online JEE Main exam on April 9, 11, 12 or 16, 2014.

JEE Main Rank List will be prepared by giving 60% weightage to JEE scores and 40% weightage to Class 12 board marks.

In JEE Main exam, there is no tie-breaking mechanism and students with same JEE scores might be awarded the same rank.

Overall, Top 1, 50,000 applicants (from all merit lists) will be eligible to sit for the JEE Advanced exam. These Top 1, 50,000 applicants will include:

50.5% or about 75,750 applicants from the Common Merit List (CML). If reserved category applicants are included in this list, they will not be included in their respective category lists.

27% or about 40,500 applicants from the OBC-NCL Merit List.

15% or about 22,500 applicants from the SC Merit List.

7.5% or about 11,250 applicants from the ST Merit List.

Persons with Disability (PwD) from each category will be allotted 3% seats from that category.
