The details of the Labs in TeNet or Telecommunication and Computer Networking Group are as follows: • ADI- DSP Lab Located in Electrical Science Block (CION Building) top floor of IIT Madras and is a Continuing Education Unit sponsored by IIT Madras in the area of DSP application programming based DSPs of Analog Devices. It is a part of Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Madras. • DONLab The DONlab was started as a part of the TeNeT Group of IIT-Madras for the development of technologies and products that serve the communication needs of large segments of Indian society. Such products need to be inexpensive, with support for local languages and speech interfaces, and be globally competitive. • HP Lab It was started to install at least 500 telephone and Internet connections in Poondi, Ellapuram, Thiruvallur and Kodampathur Taluks of Thiruvallur district near Chennai, make it sustainable and develop business around them. • Intel Lab It is set up by the Intel Corporation.The laboratory is involved in teaching research and development activities in the area of Internet technologies. • Optics The Board of Governors, IIT-M has setup Center for Excellence in Optical Networks (CION) at IIT Madras, funded by Dr. Guru Deshpande. It functions under the CION with a focus on development of optical systems for telecom access. This work is done in collaboration with Midas Communications Research. • MLA Lab It is a regional lab of the Media Lab Asia which has seed funding from the Department of IT, Govt. of India. It is investigating the use of 802.11 wireless technologies for rural communications, and is building expertise in system-on-chip (SoC) design using open-source hardware cores. • NMS Lab The Board of Governors, IIT-M has setup a Centre for Excellence in Optical Networks (CION) at IIT Madras, funded by Dr. Guru Deshpande. This lab functions under the CION with a focus on development of advanced NMS solutions for telecom operators. This work is done in collaboration with NMSWorks Software Ltd.
