Yes the IIT Bombay has a Microbiology department. The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering is a nodal center for applying science and engineering principles to further fundamental knowledge and applications in biology and biomedical engineering.

The BSBE department has main aims to create an ambience for the smooth pursuit of scholarly activities in research and education.

The core of the department consists of twenty-seven faculty members.

The academic program consists of the M.Sc. Biotechnology (supported by the Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India), M.Tech Biomedical Engineering, integrated M.Sc. Ph.D. and Ph.D. program.
