The School of Materials Science and Technology of Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi was established in 1978.

It serves as University’s nodal centre for development interdisciplinary teaching and research in the field of materials science and technology.

Courses
The School offers the following courses:

1. Two Year M. Tech in Materials Science and Technology
The admission to this program is based on GATE score cum interview and is open to M.Sc. (Physics), M. Sc. (Chemistry) and B. Tech. students.

2. 5 Year Integrated Dual Degree M. Tech
The admission will be through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by IITs.

3. Research Programme.
The school has strong Ph.D programme and the admission of this programme is through national level examination e.g. NET and GATE.
