The Intensive English Program (IEP) of Southern Methodist University was setup is to prepare students for academic success at the university level for students and professionals outside of the University community preparing for future studies in higher education in the U.S.

Curriculum
The curriculum is divided into two main components: Academic Skills (2-1/2 hours per day) and Communication Skills (1-1/2 hours per day), making a total of four class hours per day.

Classes are held five days a week, Monday through Friday, for a total of 20 hours per week.

Starting in Spring 2016, IEP classes will be held according to one of the following two timetables, including breaks: 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (morning schedule); 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. (afternoon schedule).
