IAS is a service rendered in the administrative department for the Government of India . UPSC is the body which organizes the entrance exam .
There are entrance exams like IES, IFS conducted by UPSC for various positions at the Central Government level.

Eligibility criteria:
The age limit for General Category students is 21-30 years.
For SC/ST candidates it is 21-35 years
For OBC Aspirants it is 21-33 years
Aspirants must have to pass Graduation degree in any stream from a recognized University are eligible to apply this exam.
Candidates should be citizen of India.
The candidates who is a Ex-service men will get a exception of 5 years from the prescribed limits.
Applicants who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical degree Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination.

Selection procedure:
IAS examination offers following no.of attempts:
OBC candidates -7 times
General students -4 times
No limit for SC/ST students
The selection process of IAS exam comprises of following two steps:
Written test(preliminary and mains)
Personal interview

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the many constitutional body in India.

It is authorized to conduct competitive examinations and interviews for the IAS posts

Eligibility criteria for the IAS posts


You should be a citizen of India.

Candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees and immigrants with Indian origin will have to submit a certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government of India, as an evidence of their eligibility.

You should possess a degree from any of Indian universities or an equivalent qualification from any recognized university.

Applicants who have appeared or intend to appear for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the exam.


You should be of minimum 21 years of age and maximum 32 years of age. Relaxation would be provided as per the government norms to the reserved category.

Number of attempts


General category: 6

OBC category: 9

SC/SC category: Unlimited

Important dates(tentative)

Date of the examination is August

The results will be announced In the last week of October
