IAS Exam Age Limit for OC

I am come under the OC category , I want to appear in IAS exam . Will you please tell me what is the age limit to appear in the IAS Exam for OC category students . Also please tell about the education eligibility criteria for IAS Exam for OC students.

IAS (Indian Administrative Services) Exam is a test conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) to recruit eligible candidates to All India Services which includes IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS and many other Group A and Group B services.


UPSC Age Limit

One must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August of the year of exam if one is a general category student / aspirant. The upper age limit for IAS as well as all services prescribed above is relaxed for OBC, SC, ST and other categories of aspirants.


UPSC age limit relaxation for OBC SC/ST

Up to a maximum of 5 years if one belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC) or a Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Up to a maximum of 3years if one belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) who is eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates

Up to a maximum of 5 years if one had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st December, 1989.

Up to a maximum of 3 years for Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof.

Up to a maximum of 5 years for ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who has rendered at least 5 years Military Service as on 1st August and must have been released. On completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st August) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or on invalid.

Up to a maximum of 5 years in for ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years Military Service as on 1st August and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on 3 months’ notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.

Up to a maximum of 10 years for blind, deaf-mute and orthopedically handicapped persons


IAS Exam Eligibility: Nationality

One must be any of the following:

A citizen of India
A subject of Nepal
A subject of Bhutan
A refugee from Tibet who came to India with intention of permanently settling before January 01, 1962 or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India provided that a candidate belonging to categories Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refuge and other Indian origin candidates from countries mentioned above shall be given a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Education Qualification for IAS Exam:
Candidate must hold a Graduate Degree from a recognised University.
