Very true to its name Karunya which means 'Compassion', Karunya University is a University with a social concern which will address the problems of humanity through teaching, research and extension in socially relevant areas and the students and faculty of Karunya University are imbibed with spiritual discernment and a zeal to serve humanity and to eventually become leaders of society.

History
29 years has passed in existence since 4th Oct 1986 onwards.
13 years has passed as private self financing affiliated college (Bharathiar University)
4 years as an autonomous status (2000-2004)
23rd June 2004 was the date when it was recognised as Deemed University.

Accreditation: All Technical programs conform to prescribed norms of the AICTE (Govt. of India;. B.Ed as per NCTE (Govt. of India) norms;
NAAC (Govt. of India) accreditation : A Grade as on 2003.
Total No of Students = 7740 students - fully resident on campus in 15 hostels
Faculty of 409 teaching staff & 220 supporting staff with 31.5 % with doctorate degree and another 35% registered and working towards doctorate degrees.
