Pondicherry University is a central university founded in 1985 by the Government of India. It is a collegiate university with jurisdiction spread over the Union Territories of Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Its mission is to set up worldwide skilled resources in terms of people, infrastructure and partners through development of trained human resources, who will serve as agents of value based communal transformation in various spheres of life enriched with technology - assisted education, research, training and cultural amalgamation.
