Mizoram University is a central university established on July 2, 2001, by the Mizoram University Act (2000) of the Parliament of India.

The University is under the University Grants Commission, Government of India,

Initially, the university had seven academic departments, but it now has a total of 18 academic departments.

The university was awarded Grade ‘A’/3.12 out of 4 point scale by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore.

The University was also awarded Grade ‘A’ by the Mizoram State Pollution Control Board
