History

The University Act received the assent of the President of India on 24 September 1987.

In 1991, it was ordered that the Act called as Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai Act, 1987.

It is named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, late Dr. M.G. Ramachandran by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi.

The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (TNMGRMU) is a government medical university centered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

It is named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. M.G.Ramachandran (M.G.R.)

It is the second-largest health sciences university in India.

History:

Aiming to bring about change and progress through education, the Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust was constituted in 1985 and started Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College.

Within three years of its inception, Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College was founded in 1988, and the Thai Moogambigai Dental College was started in the year 1991
