Guru Nanak Dev University (G.N.D.U.) was established on 24 November 1969 to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev's birth celebrations. It is both a residential and an affiliating university.

Ranking
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Guru Nanak Dev University 86 overall in India and 59 among universities in 2018. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council accredited it at the five-star level.
