The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) General Test is currently a computer-based test offered in US and in most other countries. The GRE General Test has three main divisions: Verbal Reasoning; Analytical Writing; Quantitative Reasoning. A typical computer-based test starts with the Analytical Writing section (1 hour). There are 2 sections of Verbal Reasoning having 20 questions There are 2 sections of Quantitative Reasoning each with approximately 20 questions The computer-based GRE takes 3 hours 45 minutes. Verbal Reasoning The Verbal Reasoning section measures your ability to: analyze and draw conclusions from discourse; reason from incomplete data; understand multiple levels of meaning, such as literal, identify author's assumptions and/or perspective; figurative and author's intent select important points; summarize text; distinguish major from minor or relevant points; understand the structure of a text understand the meanings of words, understand relationships among words and among concepts , sentences and entire texts The Verbal Reasoning section measures your ability to understand what you read and how you apply your reasoning skills. Quantitative Reasoning The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to: understand quantitative information apply basic mathematical skills and elementary mathematical concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data interpretation interpret and analyze quantitative information solve problems using mathematical models includes real-life scenarios Analytical Writing The Analytical Writing section measures your ability to: articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion control the elements of standard written English support ideas with relevant reasons and examples examine claims and accompanying evidence Important Dates : The General Test can be taken once every 21 days and 5 times within any continuous rolling 12 month period. |
