Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology was formally inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair. This unique concept took place in January 2007, when IIST was registered as a Society under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. IIST received the approval of the Union Cabinet on 26 April, 2007.

Admission:
IIST offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes in three branches, namely
(i) Aerospace Engineering
(ii) Avionics and
(iii) Physical sciences.

The total number of seats for the B.Tech Programmes in IIST for the academic year 2014-15 is 156. The seat matrix for different programmes is as follows:
B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering : 60
B.Tech. in Avionics : 60
B.Tech. in Physical Sciences : 36

Date of Birth

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science. It is located at Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was established on 14 September 2007 by G. Madhavan Nair.

B.Tech admission

IIST announces admission to the following programmes for the academic year 2015-16, to eligible Indian citizens:

4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering (60 Seats)
4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics (60 Seats)
5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.S./M.Tech) Programme (20 Seats)

Note: The 5-year Dual Degree programme leads to B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics and any of the following Post-Graduate degree specializations: (i) M.S. in Solid State Physics (ii) M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics (iii) M.S. in Earth System Science and (iv) M.Tech. in Optical Engineering. (There is no exit option at the end of four years).

Candidates have to clear Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2015 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) -2015 conducted by IITs.

Candidates should secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced) -2015 -

General Candidates (GEN): At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics).

Other Backward Community – Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics).

Scheduled Caste(SC), Scheduled Tribe(ST) & Persons with Disabilities(PD) Candidates: At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics).

In JEE-(Advanced)-2015, the maximum mark for each subject is 120 and the aggregate is 360.

The minimum (cut-off) marks for each subject -

Eligibility For B.Tech And Dual Degree Admission-

Citizenship

Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission in IIST.

Date of Birth

Candidates GEN and OBC categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1990.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have born on or after October 1, 1985.

Qualifying Examination

10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects of the curriculum

For GEN and OBC categories candidates-

Candidate must secure an aggregate of at least 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM)

For SC/ST/PD

Candidate should have an aggregate of at least 60% marks in PCM subjects in the qualifying examination.
