J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. named a relative newcomer to the bank to be its top attorney, succeeding the official who drove the firm through a progression of wounding conflicts with controllers.

Stacey Friedman, the senior legal counselor for J.P. Morgan's speculation bank since she joined the firm in 2012, will succeed Stephen Cutler as General Counsel.
