The Exercise Science program is a non-teacher confirmable program, which prepares students for service in fitness/wellness centers at worksite (business and industry) medical (hospitals, clinics and HMOs) and strength and conditioning settings. Students are given the essential cognitive and practical experiences for certification by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength as well as Conditioning Association (NSCA). Students are accountable for assessing, interpreting, prescribing and designing health and physical activity programs. Application for admission into the Exercise Science: • EXS 450 requires a bare minimum of 10 hours per week for 15 weeks for a total of minimum of 150 hours for the semester. • EXS 450 basic prerequisites include EXS 408 Physiology of Sport and Exercise and EXS 415 Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription (both classes with a C or better), as well as valid and current Adult CPR certification. • EXS 470 requires a bare minimum of 40 hours per week for 13 weeks for a total of minimum of 520 hours for the semester. • EXS 470 basic prerequisites include successfully completing all exercise science major courses with a C or better, as well as valid and current Adult CPR certification.
