The IAS examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) every year. The competitive examination comprises of three successive stages: Civil Services - Preliminary Examination - Objective Type (Qualifier) Civil Services - Main Examination - Written Test Interview / Personality Test Preliminary Examination The Preliminary Exam will consist of 2 papers of objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks. This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only. The Preliminary Exam shall comprise 2 compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions). The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English. Each paper will be of 2 hours duration. Blind candidates will however, be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes at each paper. Mains exam The Main Exam will consist of 9 papers in total comprising of conventional essay type questions. |
