Union Public Service Commission is India's central agency which is authorized to conduct the Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defence Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination, Combined Medical Services Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, Geologists' Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces(Assistant Commandant) Examination.

Eligibility:

Nationality:

Citizens of India for the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service

Age limit:

Age sh0uld not be less than 21 years and not more than 32 years as on August 1, 2014.
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST category, the upper age limit is relaxable up to five years. In case of OBC candidates, the upper age limit is relaxable up to three years

Educational qualification:

A degree of any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

Number of attempts:

Six times
OBC category: Nine times

This restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in case of Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe candidates.

Latest update for 2014 eligibility criteria in UPSC
The candidates should be the citizens of India for the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service.

Age limit:

The candidates should not aged less than 21 years and not more than 32 years as on August 1, 2014. (In case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST category, the upper age limit is relaxable up to five years. In case of OBC candidates, the upper age limit is relaxable up to three years).
