Re: Eastern Coalfields Limited Rajmahal Area

Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) is a coal producer based in India.
It was formed in the year 1975 after nationalization of coal mines in India.
It inherited all the private sector coal mines of Raniganj Coalfields.
It is one of the 8 fully owned subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. The company has its headquarters at Sanctoria, Asansol in West Bengal

It at present owns 105 numbers of operating mines out of which 81 are underground mines, 24 are opencast mines. The majority of its mines are in West Bengal and some in Jharkhand State
Lalmatia Colliery was a private, underground coal mine at Lalmatia, Distt- Santhal Paragana (now in Godda District a breakaway part of Santhal Paragana).

Lalmatia Colliery has now been renamed as Rajmahal Opencast Project under Rajmhal Group of Mines of Eastern Coalfields Ltd.

Most people of Lalmatia and surrounding villages (Dakaita, Hijukita, Basdiha, Lohandia, Bhorai, Bara Simra, Neema, Kendua, Telgama, Kusuma, Tetaria, Ballia etc.) are employed with Rajmahal Coal Mining Project.
The people around this area enjoy many facilities like free electricity, free water supply and many more things.

During 1973, this mine was taken over by the Indian government and came under Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited).
