Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production with the Defence Science Organisation.

Global Positioning System (GPS) related activities include the Development of Integrated INS - GPS Hybrid Navigation System, DGPS Installation and Flight Testing for IAF, Technology Management and Flight Evaluation of DGPS - SCAT:1 Precision Approach System, Establishment of a GPS Test Facility and some other projects such as GPS for the ARJUN MBT, Very High dynamics miniature GPS for rockets, GPS with Anti-jam Features for IAF etc.
