Re: Does CAT Exam Have Negative Marking

Yeah, Common Admission Test (CAT) has negative marking. One mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CAT Exam Pattern 2016 –

It was a computer based test.

Total number of questions were 100, comprising of both MCQs and Non-MCQs.

The questions were asked from 3 sections, which are – Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal & Reading Comprehension and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning.

Duration of the exam was 180 minutes. However, it was 240 minutes for PwD candidates.

60 minutes each were given to attempt a section. PwD candidates got 20 minutes extra for attempting each section.

Marking Scheme-

3 marks will be awarded for every correct answer.

Negative marking is applicable.

For every incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

No penalty for Non-MCQs.

No marks will be given for leaving a question blank.

CAT Syllabus -

# Verbal & Reading Comprehension

This section will comprise of questions that will be based on Reading comprehension, fill in the blanks, verbal reasoning, antonyms and synonyms, syllogisms, analogies, sentence correction, idioms, etc.

The information sets, that will be based on bar diagrams, statistical representation of data, tables, charts, graphical representation. In this section it is tested that how candidates can interpret the given data and answer questions based on it.
