Government of Himachal Pradesh Directorate of Medical Education & Research was established in 1996-97.
The main objective behind its creation/establishment was to integrate all Medical Education services i.e. Medical, Dental, Nursing & Para-Medical under the overall supervision/control of Deptt. of Medical Education & Research.

Formulation of policy on human resources management for the assessment of:

Man-power needs of the various Medical /Dental /Ayurvedic Para Medical Services required in the State, both in the govt. and Private Sector.

Organizing Training Programes/conferences both within the State and outside the State

Curriculum for pre-vocational Education for various Para Medical Courses being run in the State

Organizing refresher courses for advanced Professional education for Medical /Dental /Ayurveda
