Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. Psychiatry is that branch of medicine that studies and treats of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.

A psychiatrist and a psychologist are often confused as having the same meaning. While both study the feelings, brain, emotions, and thoughts, there is a distinct difference between the two fields of study. The primary differences between the two fields are mainly, the specific training, the education requirements, practice and salary.

The main branches of psychology are clinical psychology, health psychology, developmental psychology, forensic psychology, cognitive psychology, occupational psychology, social psychology, etc

And the main branches of psychiatry are clinical psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, etc. Psychiatry is a specialization taken during post graduation in medicine.

Both a psychiatrist and a psychologist are Doctors, however, someone practice psychology has earned a doctorate degree that is either a PsyD or, a PhD whereas someone practicing psychiatry is a medical doctor.
