Re: Difference between IES and other competitive exams

IES exam stands for Indian Engineering Service. By giving this exam you can get the job in government sector like Indian railway service, Indian Ordnance Factories Services, Indian defense services, Indian Naval Armament Service or Indian Telecommunication services.

This exam is conducted by UPSC in the following subject areas.

Mechanical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Electronics Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

The higher age limit to apply for this exam is 30 years (35 years for special categories).

The syllabus of IES exam include the following sections –
Section 1 – Objective type questions (General Ability Test)
Section 2 –Conventional type (as per specialization stream)

Eligibility criteria

*Must be graduate from engineering field

*Must aggregate of 50% in graduation.

Pattern
Section I- OBJECTIVE PAPERS:

General Ability Test 2 hrs 200 MARKS
(Part A: General English)
(Part B: General Studies)

Civil Engineering - 2 hrs 200 MARKS
Paper I
Civil Engineering - 2 hrs 200 MARKS
Paper II

Section II-CONVENTIONAL PAPERS
Civil Engineering - 3 hrs 200MARKS
Paper I
Civil Engineering - 3 hrs 200MARKS

As you can see that every part from the syllabus is covered which is not the case with many other examinations like the gate or public sector companies..

So now I think that you can compare IES to other completive exam about which you are talking. .
