The Department Of Botany is one of the best departments of Gujarat University Ahmedabad. The Department of Botany established in 1959

The Department has received many research grants from US - PL 480, DST, ICAR, UGC, CSIR, Gujarat Government, NGOs, Industries and other funding agencies etc.

The thrust areas of research have diversified to Stress Physiology, Tissue Culture and Bio technology, Biodiversity-Floristic, Horticulture and Floriculture, Medicinal plants-Photochemistry, Ecology and Environmental Biology.
