Re: Delhi university grading system
The University of Delhi (DU) has determined to form an expert committee to introduce grading system for both undergraduate as well as post-graduate courses with effect from the year 2012-13. The decision has been engaged to make semester system more effective. DU's Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh informed that after acceptance of suggestions from some college principals, they have considered to introduce grading system. As the university is also preparation to introduce four-year courses for undergraduate courses from 2012-13 session, so it is an excellent idea to have grading system at par with international standards. University Grants Commission (UGC) has also sent out a notification to all the universities across India to adopt semestrisation of courses and espouse grading system for results by sinking the numerical system of marking. The change of scheme will be administered from the academic year 2015-16. Direction by UGC includes introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Credit Framework for Skill Development (CFSD). Under CBCS, the aspirants will be able to pursue three types of courses – foundation, elective and core. It will be obligatory for students to pursue core subjects every semester and choices will be available to pick electives from a pool of subjects unrelated to their disciplines. The UGC will also set up a facilitation group to extend necessary assistance to the universities in their transition process.
