Re: Daiict gsoc
Eleven students of Dhirubai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) have been selected to intern with Google Summer Code of 2015. Google Picks DAIICT Students For Internship The students had applied for the internship in January. The GSOC is a global internship opportunity for students that offer stipends to write code for various open source software projects. Through GSOC, accepted student applicants are paired with mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. In turn, the participating projects are able to more easily identify and bring in new developers. These students also receive a stipend of $5,000 (Rs 3.18 lakh) if they successfully complete the project within the deadline. With 'Flip bits not burgers' as its original slogan, the idea of the programme was to get students be paid to develop open source code than a summer job flipping burgers. The students who have been chosen are Rishi Shah, Prakhar Joshi, Saurabh Patel, Kaushik Varanasi, Avinash Srivastav, Kesha Shah, Abhimanyu Tak, Akshay Ratan, Shaurya Singh, Ganesh Iyer, Ainish Dave. The students said that when they applied for GSOC, they were given a list of 130 organisations to choose from for the summer project. Apart from the stipend, they also get Google's goodie bag comprising T-shirts and stickers. Since its inception in 2005, the GSOC has brought together over 8,500 successful student participants from 101 countries and over 8,300 mentors from over 109 countries worldwide to produce over 50 million lines of code. |
