Sri Krishnadevaraya University was established in the year 1968 and initially it began to function as a centre for offering post-graduation education under Sri Venkateswara University.

It received university status in the year 1981 and it became an affiliating university in the year 1987.

The university is offering courses at UG, PG and Ph. D education through 38 departments functioning under its main campus.
