The Mahamaya Technical University and Gautam Buddha Technical University has merged into Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, formerly Uttar Pradesh Technical University.

The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University was founded in 2000.

The university was bifurcated into separate universities, Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University to reduce workload of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.

In 2013, the university was formed again by combining the two.

The University is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). It is one of top Technical Universities in India.
