Universiti Sains Malaysia is one of the biggest universities from enrollment point of view in Malaysia. The number of Faculty is about 1,479, which leads to a student-lecturer ratio of around 19:1. Civil Engineering School USM A Civil Engineer is directly involved in any of the following disciplines in Universiti Sains Malaysia: Building design and construction Road, highway and bridge design and construction Dams design and construction Design of waterways and irrigation systems Water supply engineering Water and air quality control and measures Transport planning and Traffic system design Geotechnic Public health and many others The Teaching Programme From its first two years, students are face to face to basic engineering knowledge and various technologies. For example, computer programming, engineering mathematics, electrical technology, concrete technology, material technology, engineering mechanics and engineering graphics. Students need to undergo industrial training at either any of the government agencies, or in the industries in the third year. In the final year, candidates will be required to major in a specialized civil engineering Branch. Candidates are also required to prepare a final year report in the form of dissertation or project report in any of the areas. This is to prepare students for research, project based activities and technical report writing.
