Central Institute of English and Foreign Language is a very old institute which was established in 1958 at Hyderabad. After some time it became a university which has its two other centers (1.) Shillong established in 1974 and (2.) Lucknow established in 1976.

CIEFL (Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages), Lucknow is now known as The English and Foreign Languages University (or EFLU). It is a central university in India and it was founded by the government of India in 1958 as the Central Institute of English.

EFLU offers academic programmes in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish, Italian, Chinese, Korean, and Hindi.

EFLU Lucknow Campus:

EFLU Campus at Lucknow was started established in 1979 to provide training to university/college teachers of English from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
