Can you tell me about the syllabus and paper pattern of Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE Proficiency Test Class X as my son will be giving the exam so needed it for preparation?

CBSE Proficiency test is a paper-pen based optional examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi to evaluate the individual capacity and talent of CBSE students in various subjects.

CBSE Proficiency Test Syllabus:

The syllabus for CBSE proficiency test is based on the syllabus of Class IX and X but is consist of concept application questions.

• The test in English or Hindi will test the student's reading, writing or vocabulary.

• The test in Science will focus on assessment of student's ability to apply concepts and principles to analyze a given situation, solve a given problem and conduct practical work efficiently.

• The test in Mathematics will assess problem solving ability, skills of mathematical thinking, mathematical reasoning and procedural thinking.

CBSE Proficiency Test Paper Pattern:

• All questions are of multiple choice type with one single answer.
• Correct answers are to be marked on OMR sheet.
• The total marks for each subject is 100
• The duration of CBSE Proficiency Test 2015 is 150 minutes (two and half hours).
• The test is based on classes IX-X syllabus in the subject prescribed by CBSE.
• Questions included in the question paper are of varying difficulty level.
• The type of questions is different from the type of questions asked in conventional final exam conducted by the Board at the end of Class-X.
• The test is not including any direct recall, information-based or memory –based questions. It will only include questions to assess students’ skills and abilities to apply understanding of concepts to analyze a given situation or an unfamiliar everyday life problem.
• Negative marks are awarded for wrong answers.
• More than one answer indicated against a question will also be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked.
