Common Admission test (CAT) is the gateway to the cream of management institutes in India, the IIMs. It is an aptitude test used as an admission test to shortlist applicants for admissions to the 19 IIMs- at Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bodh Gaya, Calcutta, Indore, Kashipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Shillong, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur and Visakhapatnam. Important Dates 2016 AUG 8, 2016, Monday CAT 2016 Registration Starts SEP 27, 2016, Tuesday CAT 2016 Registration ends at 05:00 PM OCT 24, 2016, Monday CAT 2016 Admit Card Download from 01:00 PM DEC 4, 2016, Sunday CAT 2016 Test Day 2nd week of January 2017 (Tentative) Release of Results Eligibility One must have minimum a three-year bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university with 50% marks in graduation Test pattern and Duration It is a computer based test which consists of 100 objective type questions. There are 3 sections in the test they are, • Quantitative Ability (QA) • Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC), and • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR). The Quantitative Ability and Verbal& Reading Comprehension sections consist of 34 questions, whereas the Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section has 32 questions. Along with the objective type questions, there are some non-MCQ questions in each section. One has to answer in the space provided to them. The total duration of the test is 180 minutes or 3 hours. However, each section of the test has a time limit of 1 hour each. The test takers cannot switch between the sections and have to attend the test in a particular order. The order of the sections is- • VRC • DI & LR, and • QA As per the marking scheme, each question carries 4 marks and there is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for the non-MCQ questions. |
